GP who faked prescriptions for diamorphine is suspended for three months

A GP who wrote prescriptions in the names of deceased and terminally ill patients to obtain diamorphine for himself has been suspended from the UK medical register for three months.

When confronted over the 66 bogus prescriptions in 2018 by colleagues at his practice, Praveen Alla claimed that he had been blackmailed into writing them by a patient who threatened to falsely accuse him of sexual abuse. But he retracted those claims and confessed the truth within 36 hours.

He was convicted in October 2020 of fraud by abuse of position and received a sentence in December of 12 months imprisonment, suspended for two years. He has not worked as a GP since his fake …
