Toenail onychomycosis can cause serious problems

EDITOR—We have read with interest and dismay the flurry of correspondence from general practitioners sent in response to your articles concerning the treatment of toenail onychomycosis.1 2 Toenail onychomycosis seems to be regarded by many as a purely cosmetic problem and relegated to causing no more distress to the patient than a crinkly nail.2^–4
