US tightens its defences against BSE

US government officials and the farming industry met last week to discuss whether the United States needs to bolster its defences against bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), which has yet to be detected in US cattle.
The US Department of Agriculture has already made it illegal to bring European cattle and beef products into the country.
