Rapid Response:

In union there is strength

I am very grateful for the interesting and constructive responses to
this paper, both in electronic and personal correspondence. Two themes
stand out in having broad support: the need for improvements in training
for all health professionals who look after children, and the need for
closer working arrangements between all aspects of primary and secondary
care to improve the functioning of the entire service for children and
thereby improve their health.

To achieve these goals, it is clear that professionals from different
disciplines will need to work together in close collaboration. I hope that
our common purpose in promoting children's best interests will foster the
united approach that will be needed to overcome the considerable obstacles
that we face in improving children's health and wellbeing.
