Rapid Response:

Re:If only life was so simple

I have seen Dr. Goudsmit and Dr. Shepherd try to respond to the
insults posted on the ME Association website. I have also seen Kim McCleary, et al, respond to insults received on the CFIDS Association
website. It is a waste of time, as the malcontents are proud that they
are opposing all authority and fighting alone for The Truth. They don't
understand academic discourse and feel that they are more qualified to
critique the science than people who have dedicated their lives to their
scientific field. I see no way to inform them, other than to initiate
positive data and carry on and ignore them. The situation in England is
unbearable for patients with the psychiatrists thinking they understand
M.E. and denying biomedical treatment to patients. Our sympathy goes out
to them. Unfortunately these psychiatrists influence physicians in the
rest of the world, including the CDC in the US. The biomedical data is
clear and abundant, so anyone who really is serious in understanding M.E.
has the research available to them. If the heroes in the M.E. movement
can manage to ignore the insults and focus on those of us who highly
respect their heroism, I hope they will not give the victory to the small
contingent who just don't know how to act respectfully. Also, remember
that this disease involves a cognitive disability. Dr. Goudsmit and Dr.
Shepherd are truly heroes who have served over many, many years. Please
hang in there with us if you can. You have dedicated many years of
faithful service. Please don't think it is wasted on us. We are bashed by
the rude if we comment on the internet, but we are here in great numbers
and we greatly admire you for all you have done. Please listen to the
silent majority and feel appreciated. We would be nowhere without you.
