Rapid Response:

Migraine and the risk of stroke

This study is very interesting. A study with large number of
subjects confirmed that migraine is an independent risk factor for
stroke. In our clinical practice we should be more concerned about modifiable
vascular risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, high blood lipid, and
smoking) when we see a patient with vascular headache. Further study
should be performed to evaluate the role of migraine prophylaxis for
decreasing the risk of cerebrovascular accident.
