We should publish the cost of each piece of research

Correction

Editing has introduced some errors in my piece, unfortunately.

The
last sentence in the 4th
paragraph should say: "But we have spent almost no
time documenting the cost of each advance, and this allows the
perpetuation of myths about what an appropriate allocation for research
is."

And the
first sentence in the last paragraph should say:
"It's just my guess that 10% of the total funds for
a programme or policy reserved for evaluation is not enough to tell an
instructive story about process, outcome and health equity."
