C Reactive Protein and cardiovascular risk

Blood biomarkers have been invoked in acute stroke. Laskowitz et al
obtained results in 130 patients with focal signs and 41 patients with
ischemic stroke, and a prognostic panel with BNP, C reactive protein, D
-dimer, MMP-9 and S100B. A sensitivity of 81% and a specificity of 70%
for diagnosing ischemic stroke were recorded.

Delgado et al. examined the diagnostic value of a biomarkers panel to
differentiate ischemic stroke from cerebral hemorrhage. 776 patients with
stroke and 139 patients with ICH were tested for cRP, D-dimer, RAGE, MMP-9, S100B, BNp, neurothrophin-3, caspase -3, chimerin and secretagogin
with relative success differentiating ICH from IS.
