Paediatricians have indeed borne the brunt of the child protection
maelstorm; however we must not forget that other doctors have been caught
up in this too, for example child psychiatrists, paediatric radiologists,
general practitioners and at least one pathologist.
It would be very useful if the forthcoming and very welcome GMC
working group on child protection included representation not only from
the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health but also links with
other medical disciplines involved in the process; the main issues are
likely to be similar but there are bound to be differences which may be
very relevant.
The children need ALL the doctors involved in their care properly
supported through this process , not just their paediatricians.
Rapid Response:
other medical disciplines are concerned too
Dear Sir
Paediatricians have indeed borne the brunt of the child protection
maelstorm; however we must not forget that other doctors have been caught
up in this too, for example child psychiatrists, paediatric radiologists,
general practitioners and at least one pathologist.
It would be very useful if the forthcoming and very welcome GMC
working group on child protection included representation not only from
the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health but also links with
other medical disciplines involved in the process; the main issues are
likely to be similar but there are bound to be differences which may be
very relevant.
The children need ALL the doctors involved in their care properly
supported through this process , not just their paediatricians.
yours faithfully
