also,with Travelli,identified a, usually minor, Hgb variant that was
increased in Diabetes Mellitus. At first it was considered to be possibly
associated in some manner with the etiology of the disease and only later
was it found that this component-HgbA1c- was a post-transscriptional
modification now used everywhere to reflect the level of glucose over time
in the blood stream.
