Rapid Response:

sex determination and doctors

Doctors are not always responsible for this behaviour of the society
against a girl child. The pregnant lady is the one who always undergoes
abortion after knowing the sex of the baby.so legally she has to be
punished first. The patients are behind the doctors to conduct sex
determination and a handful of doctors yeild to the pressure of the money.
This happens more often in the lower middle classes and business
communities. The mother and the mother in law are the ones apart from the
lady think of having a son rather than daughter as they think girl child
is a burden to the family.Falling sex ratio in the northern states is a
evidence of this menace. If the girl is educated, earning and helpful to
the family this menace can be stopped. This imbalance probably will get
corrected once the brides are not available as is happening in some
communities now.parents who want single kid usually do not undergo sex
determination of the foetus. Finally I would say key to this problem lies
in educating the girl child and making her to lead a independent life
rather than punishing doctors. The proof of this is kerala state in india.
