Medical education must be more patient centred to be relevant

Rapid Response:

Patient centred training necessary for tommorows doctors

Patient centered medical education is essential in my view,
especially with the changes in medical training that will lead to doctors
becoming consultants at a much earlier age than previously. In the past
there was time to learn more about the fringe aspects of medicine but now
earlier contact with patients is important if one is to acquire the skills
necessary to become doctors 'fit for purpose'. However patient centred
does not mean ignoring the other aspects it just means a greater emphasis
on patients in training than before.
