X ray imaging goes digital

Rapid Response:

Congratulations note

I congratulate Professor Ng and Dr Rehani for X Ray Imaging Goes
Digital published in BMJ, volume 33, October 2006.

Though filmless X-Ray departments save money for not having to
acquire costly film, the initial investment for this technology is still
expensive and many radiology facilities continue to work with conventional
film.

Paradoxically this line of work remains constant in radiation doses.
Are radiology technicians and radiologists better trained than the ones
working in digital X Ray departments ?, I don’t think so, maybe they are
just more careful of film waste. A combination of digital departments
with clear conscience, well trained radiology personnel will support ALARA
in benefit of our patients. As they do, I also consider that quality
assurance regulations are essential.

Sincerely,
