A Better Way

If one monitors the balance of the irrigating solution used in
TURPs [and hysteroscopic procedures] one can prevent the development of
hyponatremia, pulmonary edema, etc. If an 800-1000 ml differential
develops [positive balance] the procedure should be halted until the cause
can be assessed and the problem corrected [obviously in an emergency this may
be impossible].

Prevention is always better than treatment
