Barrier nursing

Editor, Campbell and Bah-Sow suggest that barrier nursing is not
necessary, except for patients with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis,
who should be managed in a negative pressure room vented to the outside.
They also assert that patients should be discharged home unless clinically
imperative. According to NICE guidelines on tuberculosis1 , barrier
nursing and isolation is recommended till three sputum tests are negative.
