There must be an explanation for the apparent finding that silver
cars are less likely to be involved in an crash, and the paper fails to
comment on two important factors.

Personality type (aggressive/ non-aggressive) affects selection of
car-colour in the showroom. My sensible 55 year-old father has bought a
silver car recently, whereas my younger brother who drives slightly less
sensibly has selcted a non-silver one.

And secondly, fashion has led to a rash of new, silver cars, with
anti-lock breaks and good tyres and effective windscreen wipers.
