Rapid Response:

Two great doctors

The aphorisms of two of the great physicians of history are taped to the message board above my desk:

"To cure sometimes, to relieve often, and to comfort always." William Osler,

"To know the patient that has the disease is more important than to know the disease that the patient has". William Osler.

"A physician is obligated to consider more than a diseased organ, more even than the whole man - he must view the man in his world". Harvey Cushing.

For me at least, this just about covers it.
