Surgeon sacked for “misconduct and misjudgment”

BMJ 2000; 321 doi: (Published 05 August 2000) Cite this as: BMJ 2000;321:321

Rapid Response:

Times have changed.

I seem to remember that the first ten or so renal transplantion
procedures in Britain were all unsuccessful and the patients died within
weeks of the surgery. Far from being castigated, the surgeon involved was
awarded a knighthood.
