An insider's guide to depression

BMJ 2001; 323 doi: https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.323.7319.1011 (Published 27 October 2001) Cite this as: BMJ 2001;323:1011

An insider's guide could help outsiders too

Dr McKall's article was very welcome. As someone who does telephone
counselling for people suffering from various chronic illnesses, some of
whom also suffer from depression, it gave me new ideas about my response.
I hope that a great many GPs will read it and adapt their way of dealing
with their depressed patients.

I also showed the article to my daughter, who suffers periodic
episodes of depresssion. She thought it was wonderful. She hopes that Dr
McKall will write more on the subject. Her fluency and humour (maybe she
can feel humour now) are a breath of fresh air.
