BMJ 1998; 316 doi: (Published 06 June 1998) Cite this as: BMJ 1998;316:1714

Dear Sirs,

Although I admit to the importance of the research into depression and it's correlation with morbidity and mortality rates, I truly feel the word "may" in the conclusion should be emphasized alot more (even with P=0.01), due to the fact tht all subjects came from one general practice and the subjects diagnosis of depression was based on "recorded diagnosis".

Thank You,

Clifton S. Compton
