ARTICLESPediatric Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire (PQ-LES-Q): Reliability and Validity
Section snippets
Selection of Items
The selection of items to be included in the PQ-LES-Q was completed by a group of (1) clinicians with experience diagnosing and treating children and adolescents, (2) clinical investigators with experience in the use of questionnaires with children and adolescents, and (3) psychometricians with experience in the development of questionnaires including one of the original developers of the Q-LES-Q.
The work of the group was guided by several considerations. The overarching desire was to develop a
Reliability
The internal consistency values for the PQ-LES-Q total score were high at all three points in time, screening, baseline, and endpoint, ranging from 0.87 to 0.90 (Table 3). The individual item with total score correlations tended to be in the moderate range, with all but one between 0.61 and 0.44 at screening, 0.69 and 0.53 at baseline, and 0.70 and 0.48 at endpoint. The exception was the item “getting or buying things,” which had a correlation of 0.29 at screening, 0.39 at baseline, and 0.35 at
DISCUSSION
As noted below, the results reported here provide preliminary evidence of the reliability and validity of the pediatric Q-LES-Q, or PQ-LES-Q, as a QOL measure suitable for use with children and adolescents. As was the case with the Q-LES-Q-SF, the PQ-LES-Q has been demonstrated to have high internal consistency and high test-retest reliability using data from a large sample of children and adolescents diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Similarly, the moderate correlations with concurrent

The PQ-LES-Q is a 15-item parent-rated questionnaire that assesses the degree of enjoyment and satisfaction experienced by the child in the past week (Endicott et al., 2006). Each question is rated on a scale of 1 (Very Poor) to 5 (Very Good) and a total score is calculated by summing the first 14 items.
