    An important advantage of the present study is that it was one of the first theory-based surveys in the field of guideline implementation. Although the benefits of applying a coherent theoretical framework have been questioned [14,18–21], we are of the opinion that our results prove the added value of such an approach. The present study is the first to demonstrate that awareness of personal performance may be an important moderator of the relationship between motivational determinants and behavior.
