Somatic complaints in early adulthood predict the developmental course of compassion into middle age
2020, Journal of Psychosomatic ResearchCitation Excerpt :The results also demonstrated that the association of somatic complaints with compassion development remained after controlling for participants' alexithymia. Despite the enormous strain that somatic complaints set for the public health care system [3–5], very few of the individuals with frequent somatic complaints have received or feel need for psychiatric treatment in primary care [47]. There is previous evidence for a substantial comorbidity of somatic complaints with psychiatric disorders, particularly with internalizing disorders such as anxiety, panic disorder, and depression [20,27].
Integration of mental health resources in a primary care setting leads to increased provider satisfaction and patient access
2013, General Hospital PsychiatryCitation Excerpt :Evidence shows that patients often present to primary care with mental health concerns [1,2], but primary care providers have mixed success in identifying and managing these needs on their own [3–6].
