2021, Journal of Pediatric Health CareCitation Excerpt :All victims suffer some degree of at least short-term morbidity as the result of unnecessary medical tests and procedures (Flaherty et al., 2013). Mortality is reported to range from 6% to 9%, with approximately the same numbers of victims suffering long-term disability or permanent injury (McClure et al., 1996; Rosenberg, 1987; Sheridan, 2003). MCA often continues while the child is hospitalized (Schreier, 2002), even in the intensive care unit (Su, Shoykhet, & Bell, 2010).
