Justin David Gardner
Consultant psychiatrist Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health
Partnership NHS Trust (b London 1962; q Royal Free Hospital, London, 1986;
MRCPsych), died suddenly on 26 October 2005.
Educated at King’s College School, Wimbledon, and the Royal Free
Hospital School of Medicine, Justin pursued a career in psychiatry, training in
Bristol and London. He was appointed consultant psychiatrist at University
College Hospital, moving to Norfolk in 1997. Justin worked tirelessly in
assertive outreach and continuing support for those with severe and enduring
mental illness, and latterly had developed a special interest in eating
disorders. He was closely involved with the new medical school in Norwich and
was regional organiser for specialist registrar training in psychiatry. He was
greatly respected and liked by clinical colleagues, managers, and service users
within Norfolk.
Both his parents were consultant psychiatrists. Justin was a
quiet man with an engaging sense of humour whose passions included motorcycling
and sailing. A devoted family man, he leaves a wife, Catherine; a daughter, Sarah;
and a son William. [Hadrian Ball
