John Alexander Grant Elmslie
Former general practitioner Lightliffe, Halifax (b Aberdeen 1927; q Aberdeen
1951), died from carcinoma of the prostate on 25 August 2005.
A student at Aberdeen Grammar School and University, Grant graduated MB
ChB in 1951.While a houseman in Ayr and Halifax he became interested in tuberculosis,
but in 1957 (when tuberculosis physicians became redundant), Grant entered
general practice, where he remained until his retirement in 1988. In his
youth he played rugby and golf, and liked hill walking in the Cairngorms.
However, once he met his wife, Margaret, Grant was the quintessential family
man, enjoying gardening, DIY, and visiting the local countryside. Grant died
after a tedious illness borne with fortitude. He leaves his wife, Margaret;
his daughter, Fiona; and his grandson, Alex. [E J Garden]
