Magdy Kamel Ishak
Former obstetrician and gynaecologist Wakefield (b Egypt 1948; q
Cairo 1971; MRCOG), died from a heart attack on 18 October 2002.
Magdy started his medical career in the north of England, having done
house jobs in Wakefield, then SHE and registrar grades in Cumbria, Newcastlye,
and Sunderland. Then he moved to Romford, Essex, where he covered for his
consultant colleagues in running the obstetrics and gynaecology department.
He had various posts in the Middle East and back in Britain before settling
in Wakefield in 1987. He was a member of the Territorial Army and travelled
widely, including to Hong Kong, Cyprus, and Germany. His hobbies extended
from DIY to cars and computers. Magdy was a heavy smoker but could not
be persuaded to stop. He was a very generous, kind man, and was very supportive
and a good teacher to many young doctors. He leaves a wife, Suhair, and
