The General Medical Council is appealing a decision by a medical practitioners tribunal to suspend a consultant surgeon for eight months for sexual harassment of colleagues over more than a decade.
The tribunal decided last month to suspend transplant surgeon James Gilbert rather than strike him off the medical register after noting his insight, remorse, and many positive testimonials.1 GMC had argued that the surgeon, who worked at the Oxford Transplant Centre, should be struck off.
