US abortion bans have led to health harms, discrimination, and unwanted births, reports Amnesty

The abolition of the right to abortion in the US has led to the deterioration of health services for pregnant women and a rise in unwanted births and fake clinics, putting the lives of women at risk, a report from Amnesty International has found.

Among the report’s findings were that a patchwork of different state laws is causing uncertainty and fear for pregnant women—which religious groups are capitalising on with fake clinics—and that healthcare providers are torn between following medical ethics and risking breaking the law.

“Bans, barriers, and restrictions to abortion have created fear, confusion, and devastation,” the report from the rights advocacy group said. “They have forced women, girls, and people who can get pregnant to delay care and threaten their health and life and, ultimately, have forced people to give birth against their will.”1
