Bird flu: US confirms second human case in two months

US officials have confirmed a second case of H5N1 bird flu in a human in the state of Michigan, only the third ever detected in the country. It follows a spreading infection among dairy cows—the first time H5N1 has been found to infect the animals—last month.1

The case further raises fears of a crossover of infection to humans, though authorities were quick to emphasise that there is no immediate threat to human life.
