GP practices at risk from suspension of Scottish support scheme

A vital support scheme for family doctors in Scotland introduced as part of the GP contract six years ago has been suspended, threatening the viability of dozens of practices.

A survey carried out by BMA Scotland has found that 30 practices consider their position as “precarious” following the suspension of the GP sustainability loan scheme by the Scottish government. Six practices said it is now likely that they would be forced to hand back their contract to their local health board.
