Right hand pain after a punch

A man in his 40s presented to the emergency department with pain and limited movement in his right hand after punching a wall. On physical examination, the ulnar side of the right hand was swollen and tender and the patient had a limited range of motion in the wrist joint. The overlying skin was intact, and neurovascular examinations were normal. An x ray image of the right hand is shown in figure 1.
