Pandemic aftermath: GPs are disaster responders now

GPs require “combat levels” of self-care to deal with the aftermath of the covid pandemic, an expert in disaster recovery told the Royal College of General Practitioners’ annual meeting in Glasgow. Lucy Easthope, professor in practice of risk and hazard at the University of Durham, explained what this should look like

“A pandemic fundamentally changes the social contract between the public and healthcare workers. The patients you saw in 2019 are gone. The harm of the pandemic will be experienced for a minimum of 10 to 30 years, and it will hit primary care the very hardest.
