Junior doctors in Scotland accept pay offer of 12.4% for 2023-24

Junior doctors in Scotland have voted to accept an offer from the Scottish government of a 12.4% pay rise for 2023-24, backdated to April.
In July the BMA in Scotland suspended three days of planned strike action while it put the offer to its members. A majority (71.24%; 3975) took part in the vote, and 82% of those (3245) accepted the offer.
In addition to the pay rise this year, for the following three financial years the BMA’s Scottish Junior Doctors Committee (SJDC) will enter yearly negotiations with the Scottish government. These negotiations must “make credible progress” towards full pay restoration to 2008 levels, the BMA said, and the rate of inflation will be guaranteed as the floor for each round of ongoing negotiation.
The Scottish government has also committed to agreeing a new pay review mechanism with junior doctors to reach a “mutually agreeable path to achieve pay restoration and prevent erosion recurring in the future,” the BMA said.
