Editor’s Choice—going your own way

In medicine, change is in the air. For UK medical students, the removal of the situational judgment test (doi:10.1136/bmj.p101) and the shift to a preference informed system for the UK foundation programme (doi:10.1136/bmj.p323) are on the horizon. Industrial action is cancelling or postponing placements (doi:10.1136/bmj.p571), and opportunities to receive teaching on the wards may feel limited (doi:10.1136/bmj.o3035). You might also be turning your thoughts to bigger changes and wondering how you can help make the NHS greener (doi:10.1136/bmj.o2400), or reflecting on the lasting impacts of the pandemic—both on specific communities (doi:10.1136/bmj.o2534) and on medical students around the world (doi:10.1136/bmj.o2830). Trying to juggle all of this, while cramming in the curriculum and learning how to conduct yourself as a doctor, can leave very little room to be yourself in medicine.
