Consultants in England are set to strike again in August

Consultants in England have announced plans to take two further days of strike next month as their ongoing pay dispute with the government escalates.
Last week the government made what it described as a “final offer” of a 6% pay increase for doctors in England and an extra £1250 consolidated payment for junior doctors for 2023-24,1 after accepting recommendations made by the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB).
The BMA described the offer as a “savage real terms pay cut,” and on 17 July its Consultants Committee announced further provisional strike dates of 24 and 25 August, to follow the action already organised for this week on 20 and 21 July.
