Malcolm R Laing

Malcolm Laing was born in Dundee and brought up in Monifieth in Angus before moving to Arbroath aged 14. He attended Aberdeen University in 1973, collected several class prizes then graduated with distinction in 1979. After his house jobs, he did a year on the surgical rotation, followed by a year in general practice at Woodside in Aberdeen. He then decided on a surgical career, comfortably passing the fellowship exams while working in the ear, nose, and throat department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He did part of his training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. He was then offered a consultants post as an ENT surgeon in Inverness, which he was delighted to accept in 1989.
