The government should trial a four day working week in the NHS to help tackle systemic burnout and retain more staff, a report from a campaign group has argued.
The 4 Day Week campaign recently backed an industry pilot testing four day working1 that saw many of the 61 private sector businesses which took part reporting lower levels of stress and burnout among staff and better retention.
In a new report,2 the group urged the government to extend this approach to the public sector and use the upcoming NHS workforce strategy as a launchpad to move towards shorter working weeks in the health service.
