Roger Gabriel was born in Canton, Cardiff, on 13 January 1938. His family lived in a flat above Lloyds Bank. Roger attended Monkton House and Llandaff Cathedral schools. He took his A levels at Cardiff Technical College.
Roger had a long and illustrious medical career—by the age of 83 he had achieved the remarkable accomplishment of working in clinical medicine for 59 years, and as a consultant physician for 50 years. He had hoped to achieve 60 years of full time clinical work.
He started his medical career in October 1957 at the age of 19 as a student at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School. After five years at medical school followed by two years “on the house” at “the Cross,” he trained in general and renal medicine at Hammersmith Hospital, …
