Urgent action is needed to tackle malnutrition crisis in 30 million children, says WHO

A series of global crises are causing “unprecedented” levels of malnutrition in children which without an urgent response will become a tragedy, the World Health Organization has warned.

Conflict, climate change, covid-19, and the rising cost of living have caused an international increase in hunger, it said.

More than 30 million children in the 15 worst affected countries now suffer from acute malnutrition, while 8 million suffer from severe wasting, the highest and deadliest form of malnutrition. At the same time, the key health and nutrition services needed to save lives are becoming more difficult to access when they are needed most. …
