Candida auris, a multi-drug resistant fungal infection, is spreading rapidly in US healthcare facilities, a study from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found.1234
The public health agency said that C auris was an emerging fungus that is a serious global health threat. It was first reported in Japan in 2009 in the external ear canal of a patient, hence its name: auris is Latin for ear. It was first seen in the US in 2016.5
