Global cost of overweight and obesity will hit $4.32tn a year by 2035, report warns

More than half (51%) of the global population will be living with overweight or obesity within 12 years unless prevention, treatment, and support improve, the World Obesity Federation has said.1
In its World Obesity Atlas 2023, the federation said the economic impact of overweight and obesity on the world is set to reach $4.32tn—nearly 3% of global gross domestic product—annually by 2035. This is comparable with the impact of covid-19 in 2020.
