Hugh Nevill Hardy

Hugh Nevill Hardy (“Hugh”), who has died at the age of 98, was a dedicated and much loved GP in the village of Forest Row in East Sussex from 1954 to 1987.
Hugh was born in Edgbaston, Birmingham. His father, Thomas Lionel Hardy, was an eminent and pioneering gastroenterologist.
After schooling in Sussex and Hertfordshire, Hugh joined the Home Guard as a cadet and by the winter of 1943 he was a lieutenant in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps and heading to fight in southern Italy.
