Heather Jacqueline Lopert

Heather was born in Manchester to Myer (a draper) and Jeanette, and from a very early age was determined to become a doctor. Awarded a grant to study at Manchester University, her father approved only because it would keep her busy till she got married. Initially the grant was paid to her father; in 1948, after she married Ilija Lopert, a Lithuanian émigré training in ear, nose, and throat medicine, the grant was paid to her husband.
