Nottingham trust is fined £800 000 for unsafe care of mother and baby

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has been fined £800 000 for failing to provide safe care and treatment to a mother and her baby, who died 23 minutes after her birth by caesarean section.

The criminal prosecution was brought by the Care Quality Commission after the trust admitted mistakes in the care of Sarah Andrews and her baby Wynter, who was born in September 2019 at Queen’s Medical Centre.

The trust pleaded guilty to a series of failings exposing Andrews and her baby to a significant risk of avoidable harm. The early guilty pleas reduced a £1.2m fine to £800 000, the largest fine to be imposed on an NHS trust over maternity …
