Patrick Vallance has announced that he will step down as the UK government’s chief scientific adviser in April 2023 after five years in the post.
Vallance—who became a household name during the covid-19 pandemic, regularly appearing alongside the prime minister, Boris Johnson, during televised briefings—started out as a consultant physician in the NHS. …
