A surgeon who kept drilling into a patient’s ear after he had lost his bearings and was then dishonest in an attempt to minimise her subsequent life changing injury has been suspended from the UK medical register for eight months.
Amir Farboud was in the final year of his training to be an ear, nose, and throat surgeon in Cardiff when he undertook the cortical mastoidectomy. The purpose was to investigate the cause of the patient’s hearing loss.
Farboud would miss his target and drill too deep, severely damaging the facial nerve and labyrinth.
