One in three GPs intends to quit within five years, survey finds

A third of GPs in England plan to leave direct patient care within the next five years, including three fifths of those over 50, show the results of the latest GP Worklife Survey.
A total of 2227 GPs were questioned for the survey, and 61% of those over 50 and 16% of under 50s said that they were planning to leave.1
Doctors’ representatives have urged the government to take action to prevent the mass exodus of experienced doctors, which they warn will put patient care in “serious jeopardy.”
Martin Marshall, chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners, said that the findings reflected those of similar surveys conducted by the college.
