Re: Covid-19: Two million people in the UK are estimated to be experiencing long covid, says ONS

Dear Editor, Two million is no small number and associated morbidity cannot be left to imagination. Enigmatic initially, long COVID now studied, defined and described continues to carry a degree of vagueness and uncertainty in its course. With the prolonged and protracted pandemic, long COVID numbers will further rise. Every new variant that emerges carries potential for immune escape ; COVID turning endemic need not necessarily have a benign course and demands continued caution. Further, severity of COVID reportedly has no relation with development of long COVID. As the situation stands, long COVID numerically poses a lasting challenge in sizeable numbers that demands more and added therapeutics. Dr Murar E Yeolekar, Mumbai.
