Government’s plan to recruit extra obstetricians and midwives leaves “startling gap”

The health minister Maria Caulfield has been asked to explain the “startling gap” between the number of obstetricians and midwives that the NHS intends to recruit and estimates of the number needed.
On 23 February the government said it will increase the maternity workforce with a £95m recruitment drive to hire 100 more obstetricians and 1200 midwives.1
